Previously, our team created a powerful Infrared Transmitter with high-current output, enabling the construction of potent IR LED blasters. Presently, we have focused on developing the complementary component, the highly sensitive and versatile Adafruit Infrared IR Remote Receiver. Featuring two selectable IR receiver chips, it offers a wide range of capabilities.
This breakout board allows you to choose between two 38KHz receiver sensors, placed on the end and in the middle. With a slide switch, you can easily select which one to use for reading signal. Each sensor can be read independently through labeled breakout pads, avoiding any conflicting output.
To use this product, connect V and ground to a 3~5VDC power source and point a 38KHz remote control at the sensors. Press buttons on the remote to send signals, which will be demodulated and sent to your microcontroller via the Signal pin. For easy monitoring, there is a green LED indicator for power and a red LED for the signal. The red LED will blink when the onboard sensors detect IR remote signals.
This board will work nicely for a variety of IR remote receiving projects, and with mounting holes and a cable, a lot easier to mount in enclosures and on devices. Using a 2mm pitch STEMMA JST PH cable with headers or alligator clips on the end, you can easily wire this board without any soldering.
Note that this board is specifically for receiving 38KHz IR remote control signals - it isn't going to work for proximity/distance sensing or other frequency signals. The signal must be read by a microcontroller that has pulse-input reading capabilities - basically just check that it supports common IR Receiver connectivity and decoding. Sometimes you need to use special code or pins.
Each STEMMA board is a fully assembled and tested PCB but no cable. No soldering is required to use it, but you will need to pick up . Alternatively, if you do want to solder, there's a 0.1" spaced header for power/ground/signal.
